Volunteer Experiences

I have had a few different work experiences that have taught me how to be a diligent and present employee. These work experiences are in many different fields as I began to understand what I want to do with my future. I believe all of these, while different, have taught me skills that will be beneficial in both a graduate program and as a Counselor.

Auburn Community Church: 2021- Present

As I have been a member of Auburn Community Church (ACC), I have gotten involved in service for the church. From fall of 2023 to the present, I have been a Community Group Leader for a group of sophomore girls where we meet weekly and study the bible together. This is something that I do because I have a passion for serving the Lord in all that I do. Through this experience, I have learned leadership skills and created lasting relationships that I am able to pour into in a positive way. As a counselor, I will be investing into many individuals. I have discovered my love of pouring into others through leading this community group.

Delta Gamma: 2021- Present

From fall of 2021 to the present, I have been a member of Delta Gamma Sorority. For the year of 2023, I served as the Director of Senior Programming. This is a position on the executive council where I would plan events for seniors, order their graduation materials, and create scrapbooks for each of the seniors at graduation. This position helped me to gain experience in communicating with individuals consistently, helped me to learn how to stay on top of a large amount of work, and gave me experience in event planning. I additionally served on the New Member Crew in the fall of 2022 where I met with a group of freshman weekly and helped them in their transition into both college and the sorority. I will be better able to be a dedicated and responsible Counselor from learning how to manage many individuals and a large amount of work through my time serving in Delta Gamma.

The Sustenance Project: 2022- Present

From fall of 2022 through the present, I have been a member of The Sustenance Project. This is a club that is working to reduce hunger in Lee County children and adolescents. For the club, we pack and deliver snack bags to children in the Auburn areas over major breaks such as summer break, Thanksgiving break, and Winter break. As I have both packed and passed out snack bags to community members, I have been able to see my community in the lens of how great of a need there is. I believe that experiences such as these have been transformative in increasing my empathy for diverse populations.

Zambia Mission Trip: Summer 2023

For the summer of 2023, I spent a month in Zambia on a mission trip. This mission trip allowed me to make connections with many people all over Zambia, as well as in a couple surrounding countries such as Zimbabwe and Botswana. We worked with churches in the area to evangelize, served at a boys home, and helped with a homeless ministry in Lusaka. My month in Zambia was one of the most influential times of my life through being able to immerse myself in a culture that is different from my own. I was able to invest time in many individuals in this country and we were able to learn from one another. As a counselor, I will be interacting with people from many different experiences, cultures, and backgrounds. Spending a month in Zambia increased my passion for service and gave me hands-on experience learning from people who have grown up in a culture different from my own.

The Oaks Retreat: 2022

The Oaks Retreat is a Christian retreat for incoming freshmen at Auburn University. During the summer of 2022, I served as a counselor for the Oaks Retreat. Through this position, I led a group of 10 girls and helped them as they began their time at Auburn. I was a “camp counselor” for them throughout the weekend, and was able to continue to check up with and spend time with a few of them as they began their first semester of college. This experience taught me how to reflect on my own experiences and give them advice based on those experiences. I know that my time as a “camp counselor” will allow me to be a better Counselor in my future.
