What is HDFS

HDFS is the acronym for Human Development and Family Science. Human Development and Family Science is the study of development throughout one's life from birth to death. Students are taught ways to help manage, teach, and cope with circumstances that humans endure in various stages of their life. HDFS takes a preventative approach, coupled with evidence based practices, to improve the quality of life of those around them. The tagline for the major is "People Helping People," which is the epitome of HDFS. HDFS exists to help the people around us understand their development and improve their life because of it. This major studies individuals, relationships, and environments to find solutions to everyday problems and discover the social complexities of human life. HDFS prepares students for various post-graduate goals, including both jobs and graduate programs.

Why a Counseling Minor

The Counseling minor at Auburn University exists to help students who are interested in going into a helping professional career to understand the foundational role of a counselor. This minor teaches about how to understand people from diverse backgrounds as well as how to treat and prevent the mental health issues that exist in our world.
